Jack Wise followed
a path during his life that allowed him to explore his role as an
artist and the social and spiritual ideas he sought to express. He
travelled, studied and practiced his passion persistently, living
on Canada's west coast.

Wise taught many to embrace brush work, through both organized
and informal classes. He worked with institutions such as the Victoria
College of Art and the Metchosin International Summer School of the
Arts, sharing his understanding of art and philosophy.
Spontaneity was an aspect of Jack Wise's painting, but he was also
formally trained in the fine arts at university. He worked with masters
like calligrapher Lin Chien-Shih and focused with great discipline
on learning and understanding the traditions of Chinese brush work.

Wise worked in a style that defied many critics, combining abstract
painting with Chinese calligraphy. His works are the result of his
natural environment, meditation and interaction with other artists
and masters in their fields.
